Stretching Between Massage Sessions

BeginnerSelf-Care2026-03-10

Why Stretching Matters

Stretching between massage sessions helps to maintain the flexibility and muscle relaxation achieved during your treatment. Regular stretching can extend the benefits of your massage, reduce the build-up of tension, and keep your body feeling its best.

General Stretching Guidelines

  • Hold each stretch for 20-30 seconds — avoid bouncing
  • Breathe deeply — exhale as you move into the stretch
  • Never force a stretch — you should feel a gentle pull, not pain
  • Stretch both sides — maintain balance in your body
  • Stretch daily — consistency is more important than intensity

  1. Sit or stand with good posture
  2. Gently tilt your head towards one shoulder

When to Stretch

The best times to stretch are:

  • Morning — to loosen up after sleep
  • After sitting — to counteract desk posture
  • Before bed — to release the day's tension
  • After exercise — when muscles are warm

Tip: Pair your stretching routine with deep breathing for maximum benefit. Even 5-10 minutes of daily stretching can make a noticeable difference in how your body feels between massage sessions.

Listen to Your Body

If any stretch causes pain, stop immediately. Stretching should feel good — a gentle, satisfying pull that helps your muscles release. Over time, you will find that your flexibility improves and your body holds less tension between treatments.
